IMPORTANT CHANGES IN WASTE
& RECYCLING COLLECTION
RIVER GROVE'S NEW REFUSE,
RECYCLING, and YARD WASTE COLLECTION PROGRAM BEGINS MONDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2011
The Village has incorporated a pay
as you throw component
in its refuse and recycling collection program to
encourage recycling and make the existing
program more cost equitable. Simply,
residents who generate less, recycle more, and
are a bit more environmentally conscious will
pay a bit less. Residents who generate more
garbage for disposal or chose to recycle less
will pay a bit more on a pay as you throw
basis.
Tags will now be used for any additional
waste that is set out for collection in
additional to the Village refuse cart that is
provided each home served under the Village's
waste collection program. No
tags will be required for yard waste, and an
unlimited amount of recycling can be set out
each week. A recycling cart (blue lid)
will be provided each home (the week of
September 26, 2011) to
make it easier for residents to take more
program accepted recyclables out of their waste
stream and place them in the recovery stream
(blue recycling cart).
The program is designed
to reduce the volume of refuse collected for
final disposal, thus help residents better
control their cost for disposal service. To
learn more about how the new program works click

From the Water Department
During the summer
months the Water Department will be cleaning and
televising main sewers and cleaning street and
alley sewer basins. In the past we have
discovered motor oil being poured into sewer
basins in some areas. This causes clogged up
sewers and hampers runoff, causing sewer backups
in your home. However the more serious problem
occurs when that water is treated and returned
to our rivers. This water is eventually used as
drinking water downstream. There are very
serious fines imposed not only by Village
ordinance, but also by State
and Federal EPA laws. Please call Public
Works at 708-452-7055 to
find out how to dispose of waste oil. |
