Recreation Department

The Recreation Department holds Monthly Craft Days and Movie Days at the American Legion Recreation Center. Beginning in the fall of 2011, the Recreation Department will hold Open Basketball on Monday Nights for River Grove Teens in High School. We will also hold Teen Nights at the Recreation Center for River Grove students grade 6 and up. Check the calendar for dates and times.

The Recreation Department also has Flag Football in the Fall and Girls’ Softball in the Spring. We sponsor Youth Government each year for 8th graders in all three schools in River Grove. Each Winter we hold Open Gym Nights at Rhodes School for Pre-K through 8th grade. We also hold Teen Dances throughout the school year for 7th and 8th graders.

The Recreation Department holds many other special events throughout the year and continues to add programs, so watch the calendar and check the website often!

Thanks to your participation and cooperation the recreation programs in the past have been very successful. This year with the generous donations from the American Legion and VFW Posts of River Grove, we are excited about the additional programs we are able to offer.

We hope that you will find programs that interest you and that we will have your continued support as we work towards expanding our programs in the future. If you have any suggestions for new programs as we move forward, please feel free to contact me or the Director of Recreation. Hope you will join us for a fun filled year!

Recreation and leisure time activities are important to everyone and the Village of River Grove recognizes the importance of recreational programs for our community. This is why it is the intent of the Recreation Department to provide fun activities in a safe, supervised environment for kids of all ages.

The Village of River Grove Recreation Department hopes that you will take advantage of the activities that we provide for you and your family and support us as we offer new programs in the future.

Event Registration

Registration for Recreation Dept. events can be made at the Village Hall either in person or by phone. For additional information regarding any of these events please call the Village Hall at 708.453-8000.

River Grove Rec Center I.D.

River Grove Rec Center I.D. will be required for entry for the Rec. Center and Teen Basketball. Register for Recreation Dept. I.D. at the Village Hall.

Classes begin Wed. February 15th and end April 4th. Time  7:30 - 8:30 p.m. Recreation Center, 8664 Grand Avenue $56.00 per 8 week session Space is limited so registration will be on a first come first serve basis. Register at the Village Hall, 2621 N. Thatcher Ave.

Come join ZUMBA instructor Christine Nazario for a fun and exhilarating, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness party, that is easy to follow.

Who is Christine Nazario?
After many years of flamenco dance I stumbled upon the world of Zumba and fell in love! I have been a Zumba instructor since 2009 and hold Zumba certificates in Zumba I and II, Zumba Gold and Zumba Toning. I have taught Zumba in a variety of settings and enjoy the energy and fun Zumba brings to all my students, plug the amazing health benefits Zumba offers. I also hold my AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) certificate for group exercise to ensure that my group exercise classes are preformed in a safe and healthy manner.

RECREATION CENTER

The River Grove Recreation Center will be open
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
All River Grove residents in 6th through 12th grades are welcome.

Enjoy a game of pool, ping-pong, wii, or just hang out with some friends!

Teen Dances

     The Rec. Dept. will be hosting a 7th & 8th grade Dance

     Friday, February 3rd, from 7 - 9:30 p.m. at the
     River Grove Recreation Center,
     8664 Grand Ave.
     Admission is S3.00 collected at door with permission slip.

Pizza, pop, music and fun will be provided

These dances are offered by the Recreation Department as a way to foster relationships between River Grove Students. The dance will be secured by the River Grove Police to ensure that the children's experience’s are fun, safe and memorable.

Each 7th & 8th grade River Grove student will receive a permission through the schools. The dances are offered to all 7th & 8^th grade students who attend school or live in River Grove. If you are a 7th or  8th grade student and you do not attend school in River Grove, you can pick up a permission slip at the village hall.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

   Registration for Recreation Dept. activities will take place at the  Village Hall, 2621 Thatcher Ave. or  American Legion Recreation Center.
   To be eligible to enroll in a program you must be a River Grove resident or attend a River Grove School for Teen Dances.

• All registration can be done in person or by telephoning the village hall.

• All registration must be complete and paid in full at time of registration, where applicable.

• Minimum number of participants must be met for some programs to be held.

Through the cooperation of Rhodes School Dist. 84 1/2 and River Grove School Dist. 85 1/2, school facilities will be used to provide some of the recreation department programs. School district events have priority, on occasion minor changes may be made within the Recreation Dept. programs.
